(Reuters) - U.S. stocks advanced on Tuesday, with the S&P 500 rising nearly 1 percent as a jump in crude oil prices pushed energy shares higher.
The Dow Jones industrial average .DJI gained 117.31 points, or 0.98 percent, to 12,138.70. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index .SPX rose 12.47 points, or 1.01 percent, to 1,248.94. The Nasdaq Composite Index .IXICclimbed 24.19 points, or 0.93 percent, to 2,636.45.
