(Reuters) - U.S. stocks rose on Tuesday after a series of solid earnings from big U.S. companies while a rise in consumer confidence eased concerns that shoppers were feeling the pinch of higher oil prices.
The Dow Jones industrial average .DJI rose 45.75 points, or 0.37 percent, at 12,525.63. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index .SPX added 5.69 points, or 0.43 percent, at 1,340.94. The Nasdaq Composite Index .IXIC gained 10.36 points, or 0.37 percent, at 2,836.24.(Editing by Kenneth Barry)
