    PARIS AIR SHOW, Le Bourget, June 17, 2013 /CNW/ - Magellan Aerospace has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with BAE Systems for work on the F-35 Lightning II program. Under the agreement Magellan will produce more than 1,000 sets of horizontal tails for the Conventional Take Off and Landing (CTOL) variant of the F-35 program over a 20-year period. The agreement, announced today at the Paris Air Show, Le Bourget, formalizes the continuation of the strategic relationship between BAE Systems and Magellan.

    (Reuters) - The battle between Airbus (EAD.PA) and Boeing (BA.N) over their next-generation of long-haul jets is heating up, with a string of major airlines flagging plans on Monday to place multi-billion dollar orders. Germany's Lufthansa (LHAG.DE), Japan Airlines (9201.T) and Malaysia Airlines (MASM.KL) were among carriers at the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) annual general meeting to say they were sizing up Airbus's new A350 widebody jets and Boeing's rival 787 Dreamliner and revamped 777 models.

    (Reuters) - The manufacturing sector contracted in May, driving activity to the lowest level in nearly four years, in the latest sign the economy is encountering a soft patch. Still, growth is not expected to pull back sharply, and separate data on Monday showed construction spending rose slightly in April, though it trailed expectations. The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) said its index of national factory activity in May fell to 49.0 from 50.7 in April, short of expectations for 50.7. It was the lowest level since June 2009.

    (Reuters) - Kodiak Oil & Gas Corp said it would buy oil and gas assets in North Dakota for about $660 million from privately held Liberty Resources to expand in the region. The company said it was acquiring properties in the Bakken and Three Forks formations and undeveloped leasehold in the Williston Basin of North Dakota.

    TORONTO, June 3, 2013 /CNW/ - Scorpio Mining Corporation (TSX: SPM) ("Scorpio" or the "Company") reports that the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) of the state of Sinaloa has declined the Company's initial submissions for Change of Land Use permits pertaining to the development of underground mining operations at the El Cajón and San Rafael projects and continued exploration drilling at El Cajón. As previously disclosed, Scorpio requires two independent permits in order to commence mine construction at El Cajón: the Environmental Permit, which was delivered to the Company on April 30, 2013, and the Change of Land of Use Permit.

    HALIFAX — Pieridae Energy Canada says it has signed a 20-year agreement with a German utility company that would buy liquefied natural gas from a proposed project in Nova Scotia. The deal would see E.ON Global Commodities SE purchase about five million tonnes of liquefied natural gas annually from a development that Pieridae has proposed for Goldboro, N.S.

    CALGARY — China is counting on “breakthroughs in energy trade” with Canada to help fuel economic growth in the world’s most populous country, one of the country’s top diplomats said Thursday. Speaking to a Calgary business crowd, Zhang Junsai, China’s ambassador to Canada, said his country is prepared to “deepen” ties with Canada on infrastructure development to help move the country’s oil and natural gas to the West Coast for export.
